Micromite is different from every other brand on this site: we do not simply repair it, we manufacture it. Handpiece Parts & Products, Inc. produces the complete Micromite product line at our Orange, California facility, and has done so as part of nearly fifty years of American handpiece manufacturing.

That means there is no supply chain between you and the parts. When a Micromite needs a nose assembly, a collet, a sheath or a complete rebuild, the components come off our own production floor — built to the original specification because we hold that specification ourselves.

Common Micromite Problems and What Causes Them

These are the faults we see most often on Micromite instruments. Select a symptom to see the usual cause and how we resolve it.

Loss of speed or torque at the bur

Likely cause: Wear in the motor assembly or drag developing in the collet and shaft assembly.

What we do: Assembly-level service or replacement using components we manufacture, then performance testing under load.

The collet no longer gripping securely

Likely cause: Collet wear, the most common Micromite service item.

What we do: Collet and shaft assembly replacement, followed by a retention test.

Roughness or vibration in use

Likely cause: Bearing wear inside the motor assembly, or a shaft running out of true.

What we do: Motor assembly service with concentricity verified before it ships.

Play or looseness at the nose

Likely cause: A worn nose assembly, which develops over long service life.

What we do: Nose assembly replacement with the fit verified against the sheath.

Damage or wear to the outer sheath

Likely cause: Physical wear or corrosion on the stainless steel sheath assembly.

What we do: Sheath assembly replacement from stock we manufacture ourselves.

An older Micromite no longer supported elsewhere

Likely cause: Age, and the fact that most repair shops have no parts source for this line.

What we do: We manufacture the parts, so age is rarely an obstacle — tell us what you have and we will confirm what is available.

What Happens to Your Micromite Handpiece Here

Every Micromite repair follows the same six-stage bench process. Nothing is skipped because an instrument looks straightforward.

Inspection and diagnosis. The instrument is examined under magnification and run on test air so we can confirm the actual fault rather than the reported symptom. Concentricity, bearing condition, chuck grip, air and water paths, and fiber-optic transmission are each checked.
Free written estimate. You receive a detailed estimate before any work begins. Nothing is started without your approval, and if you decide against the repair we return the handpiece free of charge.
Disassembly and ultrasonic cleaning. The handpiece is fully stripped and ultrasonically cleaned. Years of dried lubricant, autoclave residue and debris come out of passages that surface cleaning never reaches.
Component replacement. Worn bearings, O-rings, seals, turbines and chuck components are replaced. We manufacture roughly 85% of these parts ourselves in Orange, California, to tolerances that meet or exceed the original specification.
Reassembly and calibration. The instrument is rebuilt to the manufacturer's torque and alignment specifications, then lubricated to that manufacturer's requirements — not a generic procedure.
Performance testing under load. Every repair is tested under working load, not merely spun up. We verify free-running speed, concentricity, chuck retention, water spray pattern and fiber-optic output before it is cleared to ship.

Because we manufacture the Micromite line, parts availability is not the constraint it is with discontinued instruments from other makers. If you have an older unit, ask before assuming it is beyond help.
Keep the collet clean and free of debris. Collet wear is the most common Micromite service item, and contamination accelerates it considerably.
Follow standard handpiece hygiene: clean and lubricate before autoclaving, never soak in disinfectant, and run briefly after lubricating so excess oil is expelled rather than baked in.
